The 2008 Nominating Committee presents the following nominations for the offices of President, Vice-President/President Elect, Members-at-Large (2 year term):
President:
Donna Brown
Hello, My Name is Donna Brown. I am and have been married for 26 years to Ray Brown. We live in Abilene and have 4 children: Dawne, David, Debbie and Rachel. We have a daughter-in-law and 2 sons-in-law with another in the making. We have 7 beautiful grandchildren: Donald, Deonne, Krastal, Zac, Bryhanna, Tyler, and McKenna. I started family childcare 31 years ago thinking that I was going to do it until my children were in school full time and then I was going to get a "REAL JOB", well my youngest is going to graduate high school in May and I am still doing family childcare and loving every minute of it. The only difference now is that I have some of my grandchildren in my child care instead of my children.
My hobbies are going to continuing education classes so that I can keep up on all the changes, and there has been a lot. I also like going to watch my children drive in the demolition derbies in our area and yes even 2 of my daughters. I love going shopping with my girls to buy stuff for the grandbabies. I have been in CCPC for about 17 years, starting out as a KACCRA representative, moving on to Hospitality Chairman, then to Vice President/President Elect. Then last year when our President had some unexpected family illnesses she needed to resign and as Vice president I took over. I also was Vice President for a two year term and Hospitality Chair, and Fundraiser Chair for Family Child Care Providers of Dickinson County. I am working on my CDA and have almost completed it.
My Philosophy is "Children are like sponges, they absorb everything they see and hear, the first five years are the most important learning time in their lives and I want to be a part of their positive learning experiences”. I would like to represent you as a Family Child Care Provider and to keep you as informed as I personally can.
Vice-President/President Elect:
Cindy Vess
My name is Cindy Vess. I have been married to my husband, Doug, for 30 yrs. We have two Sons, 27 & 22.
I started childcare in 1977 in Manhattan, KS. We then moved to Topeka in 1978. I opened my doors again for child care in 1980.
I have been a part of CCPC for many years. I was president of Capital Area Providers in Topeka for 2 terms.
I am still active on the CAP board. I am a second helping graduate, I have my CDA, as well as being NAFCC accredited. I am a Master Provider level 5, and Master Provider leadership level 5.
My thoughts on childcare are: I believe we need to let our children play, grow, and be social with each other. Giving children the objects to play with that have educational value will allow children to grow and progress to the next level.

It is my desire to provide your child with the best possible start to a happy , healthy, successful life. I believe the first years are some of the most important. For it is, our first year of life that gives us a base to build on and the yrars following just grow from that base. I individualize my daycare program to the needs of each child in a loving home environment.
I spend time with each child. I want each child to feel they are an important person, which they are. I take time to rock, hold and listen to each child during the day.
My philosophy of child care is to provide an environment for the child.

Members-at-Large:
Chera Hill
Hello my name is Chera Hill. I live in the rural community of Sabetha. We're 60 miles north of Topeka and about 10 miles south of the Nebraska border. In Sabetha we have 1 daycare center, about 10 home daycares, and 5 preschools.
I have been doing home daycare for over 61/2 years. I started in August 2001 as being a licensed home daycare. In 2002 I re-licensed as a group home daycare. i believe i became a member of CCPC in 2002 after taking a course called "Developing Your Family Child Care Business" in Junction City. While taking this class I had the chance to network with other CCPC members and decided to join. i am not accredited but in October 2005 I received my CDA credential. This year I received a TEACH scholarship and am attending night classes with Highland Community College to receive my Associates in Early Childhood.
I advocate in my small town. I have submitted numerous articles and photographs to our local newspaper. Last year I created a display at Pizza Hut for the Week of The Young Child tying it to the Book-It program. I tried to start a daycare provider support group for my county but it didn't take off that great, everybody has hectic schedules. So,instead I created a Yahoo Group for my area providers and this is how we network and show support for one another.
I also try to attend all trainings that are available in my area just so I can learn new topics and network with other providers.
last year i enrolled for my first CCPC conference and was very excited! Unfortunately, I was unable to go because I was rushed in for emergency back surgery a week before conference. I am really trying to go again this year.
My philosophy for child care is to provide a safe and happy environment where children learn by doing everyday things. I do not provide an iron clad preschool program curriculum at my daycare because I feel children learn while playing and most of my daycare children start preschool at 3 anyway. We cover the preschool basics by doing fun activities each day without the school like setting. My motto: "Where learning comes from everyday experiences".
Members-at-Large:
Barbara Kaiser
My name is Barbara Kaiser. I am a 45 year old housewife and mother of two beautiful grown daughters. I began my child care business when my youngest was born 18 1/2 years ago. I found it to be my calling. I really love what I do.
Over the years I have taken many classes to increase my knowledge. My best learning experiences came from the kids. My philosophy is that of most, children are our future. I have seen it. Some of mine have come full circle. I know we as child care providers spend a lot of quality time in these children's lives, we make a difference.
My daycare is located in a very small town in Marion County. I look forward to serving on the CCPC board.
